- Between 2019 and 2024, Iberdrola México will invest $30 million pesos to bring electricity to rural communities.

Mexico City, November 7, 2019 – Iberdrola México, in alliance with Iluméxico, today launched the Luces de Esperanza (Lights of Hope) project to bring electricity to 30 rural communities in the Huasteca Potosina region that are currently without it. This program will help drive development by boosting productive activities and improving health, education and security.
Between 2019 and 2024, Iberdrola México will invest $30 million pesos in this program, in which autonomous solar systems will be installed in homes, schools, health centers and community facilities, to the benefit of 6,000 people who do not currently have access to the national electricity grid.
During the first phase, the project will feature the participation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the agency that integrates Sustainable Development Goals (SDA), in order to monitor progress in the project’s results and document the contribution made to the achievement of Agenda 2030.
«In Mexico there are almost one and a half million people who do not have access to electricity. We are committed to the development of the country and are confident that this program will allow the benefited communities to improve their quality of life and increase their social inclusion,» said Enrique Alba, CEO of Iberdrola México.

The first phase of the Luces de Esperanza program began in 2019 with electricity being brought to 48 homes and three community spaces in five areas near Tamazunchale (San Luis Potosi).
The second phase of the project will begin in 2020, bringing benefits to 73 homes and four public spaces in five other communities in the Huasteca Potosina region.
